ITINERARY
DAY 01: CUSCO (3,300 m.a.s.l.) - ANDES - (3650 m.a.s.l.) CLOUD FOREST (1,700 m.a.s.l)
Leaving Cusco early in the morning in one of our vehicles. We will cross interesting inter-Andean valleys and picturesque peasant communities. We will visit pre-Inca tombs, and then stop at Paucartambo, a beautiful colonial town and its interesting museum. Lunch on the road. We continue to the Cloud Forest, an area very rich in endemic species such as the Spectacled Bear and Cock of the Rock, orchids, bromeliads, ferns, etc.. observing nature and then continue to reach our hostel Orquídeas de San Pedro where we will spend our first night comfortably installed.
DAY 02: CLOUD FOREST - ERIKA LODGE (500 m.a.s.l.)
Early in the morning we will look for the interesting Cock of the Rock, Peru's national bird that performs a unique courtship ritual. After breakfast we continue to the town of Pilcopata*, then to the port of Atalaya, a place located on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River, at 700 m.a.s.l. from where we will start the descent by boat to observe the enormous diversity of existing bird species, such as herons, vultures, cormorants, etc. until we reach our Private Reserve "Erika". We will walk through the interesting trails of this transitional point between high and low jungle. Overnight at the lodge. * 1 Free Optional - Canoeing: From Pilcopata we will do 1 hour of canoeing (classes I and II) on the Koñeq and/or upper Madre de Dios rivers. We will enjoy the scenery and take the opportunity to refresh ourselves.
DAY 3: ERIKA LODGE
During the morning walk, the guide will look for, show and explain the interesting diversity of wildlife in the surroundings. We will board our boat to cross the river and walk for 30 minutes along a trail to observe and talk about interesting flora such as sensitive plants, heliconias, fruit trees, etc. until we reach the Machuwasi lagoon where we will paddle in rustic canoes to observe birds such as the primitive hoatzin, hopefully caimans, monkeys and capybaras. Night walk around our lodge to observe insects and amphibians. * 2 Free optional - Canopy tour: Our Erika Lodge clients go from tree to tree and their aerial platforms using harnesses on horizontal cables with a system of rails with which they glide at high speed over the treetops of this fabulous Amazon rainforest until they rappel down from 15 meters high.
DAY 4: ERIKA LODGE-CUSCO
Early in the morning we will board our boat to go to the Collpa, a river wall where different species of parrots such as the blue-headed parrot, white-eyed parakeet and possibly the Maracano macaw, among others, come down every morning to extract clay necessary for their dietary balance. At the end of this daily activity we return to our lodge Erika to pack up and take a boat to the port of Atalaya, where the bus awaits us to take us back. We will have lunch en route arriving in Cusco at approximately 8:00 pm.
